The girl next to me is looking

She waits until I read my book

Then looks out my window

The one I claimed right away

Her middle seat makes her squirm

Her envy flowering from her face

She leans over, asks to look again

Takes pictures of the mountains

Every angle, apologizing, smiling

Like she’s never been this high

Never knew the earth this way

I lean back to give her room

Show her the setting sun and thin moon

Wipe away the smudge on the glass

I teach her what I know

Always find the window seat
